A Six Days legend is coming out of retirement. Max Levy will be competing in the 113th Berlin Six Day Race.

Almost exactly three years ago, he celebrated a tearful farewell to the track. The audience at the Velodrom Berlin rose from their seats and cheered deafeningly as the then 35-year-old Berliner rode through a guard of honor formed by racing bikes. At the time, it was unthinkable that he would return to the oval for one last sprint. But on January 30 and 31, 2026, that is exactly what will happen – Max Levy wants to give it another go.

And for those who have forgotten or perhaps never knew: Maximilian Levy was four-time world champion, seven-time European champion, and won three Olympic medals in a total of four appearances. He has won the Berlin Six Day Race an incredible nine times. Now 38, the junior coach for the German Cycling Federation is already in training. Because when he rides, it’s not just to be there, but to show what he’s still capable of: “Anyone who knows me knows that I’m far too ambitious to just ride along. When I’m there, I want to be at the front.”

Anyone who still has doubts about whether Max Levy is even capable of competing at the Velodrom three years after his farewell should know that in 2019, 2021, and 2025, the father of three successfully completed an Ironman as a finisher. Most recently in Hamburg, he crossed the finish line in 10:32:45 hours. He completed his marathon in under 3:50 hours. In plain language: the man is in top shape. He is currently spending a lot of time on his bike to put the finishing touches on his training for the Six Days Weekend in Berlin. So be there when Maximilian Levy makes his cycling comeback of the year in 2026. Get your tickets quickly before it’s too late.
